What is GIS?

A Geographic Information System (GIS) integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts.

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) represent a technological breakthrough in organizing and displaying spatial information that promotes better decision-making by scientists, public officials, and communities facing increasingly complex demands upon their available resources.

Industries and government agencies routinely use GIS as a critical tool in representing and analyzing spatial data.  Due to the demand for spatial information, GIS has become a dynamic field with a vast expanse of applications.  Whether you are well-versed in computer technology or looking to enter this dynamic field
